Cardiology
Echocardiography:
Echocardiography is the ultrasound examination of the heart for detecting congenital and acquired heart diseases. Pathologies in the structure of the muscle (cardiomyopathies) are made visible by two-dimensional imaging and M-Mode measurement. Here the contractility of the heart, the thickness of the walls, the dimensions of the chambers (ventricles) and pre-chambers (atria) can be measured and the valves are examined.
With Doppler imaging (Color-flow imaging and PW- and CW-Doppler) the flow of blood through the different valves is made visible and measured. Thus functional and morphologic valvular diseases – insufficiencies and stenosis – can be detected and diagnosed.
Electrocardiography (ECG):
Electrocardiography records the electrical excitation and activity of the heart. Pathological abnormalities in excitation and cardiac arrhythmias are diagnosed with this method.
Blood pressure measurement:
Blood pressure measurement is used to measure the pressure in arteries. With a blood pressure measuring device the blood pressure is painlessly measured at the paw of the animal. Changes in blood pressure can be produced by various diseases for example kidney diseases, thyroid hyperfunction and diabetes and therefore should be controlled regulary in these patients.
